Not that I need more reasons to be proud to be Taiwanese, but here’s a story that does just that. 

TAIPEI — A 96-year-old Taiwanese man who will receive his master’s degree in philosophy this weekend said he was able to compete with younger students by pulling all-nighters before exams.

Chao Mu-he, better known to his classmates at Nanhua University in southern Taiwan as "Grandpa Chao," said he began graduate school after being told he was too old to continue as a volunteer at a local hospital.

"I was bored after I left the hospital," Chao said Thursday. "I don’t play mahjong or have other hobbies. I felt I had to do something with my life."

Now that he has his master’s he’ll finally be able to compete in today’s job market… *cricket’s chirping* Is this thing on???

Tube.  I love the latest trend of making online video more accessible to tv.  My tv capture card is pretty much obsolete now thanks to Hulu.  Not that I’m complaining or anything.  There are certainly worse things in life, like a 4 book series about some dumb high school girl, some vampires and werewolves. The only thing worse than that, is that story made into a movie with untalented adolescent retards trying to act…. I’m sorry that was mean.  I didn’t mean to offend retards.

Youtube XL looks like it’ll make it even easier to waste hours of my life but in full screen and with a remote. 

Hot on the heels of Hulu’s remote-control friendly desktop application, YouTube introduces its own TV-sized interface called YouTube XL.

At the beginning of the year Google unleashed an optimized interface for the Wii and PS3, but YouTube XL appears to be the next step in that progression. The new and improved YouTube XL (presumable the XL stands for extra large) boasts a better interface than the old “YouTube for TV,” though it lacks a few of the features available on YouTube proper. (Namely comments, which is arguably a positive.)

and if the MTV Movie Awards are any indication of how our children will turn out, it’s going to be a depressing one.  I’m not saying Twilight was a bad movie, it’s just that if I had a choice of watching that movie or licking feet, then take your socks off and pass the Sriracha. Seriously, I’ve seen better acting from cardboard cutouts.

Teen vampire drama Twilight may have dominated the podium at Sunday night’s irreverent MTV Movie Awards, but edgy British comedy actor Sacha Baron Cohen stole the night with a skit that sent rapper Eminem storming out of the ceremony.

Director Catharine Hardwick’s adaptation of Twilight, the first in the forthcoming movie series, snagged MTV’s golden popcorn trophy in nearly every category for which it was nominated. Winners are chosen through public voting.

Fetching young stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart were among the strong Twilight contingent on hand to pick up the movie’s five trophies, including best movie, best fight, best kiss, breakthrough male performance (for Pattinson) and best female performance (for Stewart).

We all knew this was coming. I’m in a Chevy Malibu rental this week and it must be the worst designed car in the history of man.  I’m about 4 ft tall (and that’s pretty tall for an asian) and my head still hits the roof of this car while I’m slouching. Seriously.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) — General Motors filed for bankruptcy protection early Monday, a move once viewed as unthinkable that became inevitable after years of losses and market share declines capped by a dramatic plunge in sales in recent months.

The bankruptcy is likely to lead to major changes and job cuts at the battered automaker. But President Obama and GM CEO Fritz Henderson both promised that a more viable GM will emerge from bankruptcy.

Apparently, people are sick of Wikipedia being so bland with only it’s informative text and all.  Now the next time you wiki Coltrane you will get photos and music clips all on one page.   Because opening a new tab in your browser is hard work! Man my index finger is tired from all that clicking.  I’m gonna take a nap…

Have you ever been annoyed by the fact that Wikipedia has a wealth of textual information but no videos and hardly any pictures? Take the Wikipedia article for Sony’s Rolly, for example, where the device is depicted as “an egg-shaped digital robotic music player.” If you have never seen a Rolly before, this cryptic description won’t help much. After reading about it in Wikipedia, you’ll then need to look it up on YouTube or Google Image Search to see what it actually looks like.

This is where a new service called Navify comes in. Launched in public beta today, Navify intends to enrich Wikipedia by adding pictures, videos and user comments to each article. And it actually works pretty well. Look up “Sony Rolly” using Navify and you not only get the original Wikipedia text but also hundreds of related pictures and videos (pulled in from Flickr and YouTube) by clicking on the tabs Navify puts on top of each article. Look up “Pulp Fiction” and the service retrieves the Wikipedia article itself plus screenshots, covers, posters and trailers from the movie. You get the picture.

Ever read a wiki and think, “Duh, I could have written that.” Well, this post is not for you.  As a matter of fact, if you’ve ever thought that, then go screw yourself.  This post is for people who read a half a wiki and get distracted by pics like this.  If my calculations are correct, when this baby hits eighty-eight miles per hour… wait, there’s no way that thing is going anywhere.

Wikipedia’s a great resource for learning more about complex or esoteric subjects, but sometimes the dense, insider language can be a bit off-putting. Free mashup tool Again, But Slower compares original Wikipedia entries with their simplified re-writes.

Those rewrites come courtesy of Simple English Wikipedia, a site with over 59,000 Wikipedia articles written for those at early stages of English learning or otherwise needing scaled-down encyclopedic articles. Again, But Slower simply shows those entries and the original Wikipedia entries side by side, allowing you to learn how complex scientific terms and other phrases are being used, and getting a possibly faster-moving read on a subject you need to catch up on.

I was in a geography bee once.  It’s a good thing I was in it too because I get asked about Timis County on a daily basis.  Plus being in a geography bee scares away all those pesky, horny teenage girls.

Yang, of Griffin Middle School in The Colony, Texas, won the annual competition during a tie-breaker round with this question: "Timis County shares its name with a tributary of the Danube and is located in the western part of which European country?"

The answer, Romania, comes with a U.S. $25,000 college scholarship, a lifetime membership in the National Geographic Society, and a trip to the Galápagos Islands with Jeopardy! host and Bee moderator Alex Trebek.

Along with the scholarship, the 13 year old has won a lifetime full of virginity.

The whole point of Twitter? It forces brevity. These book-smart Tweeters took that idea and gave themselves a fun challenge: Summarize great works of literature in a sentence or two. (Take that, Sparknotes!) For example:

I’m so inspired by this story, I’ve decided to auction my virginity as well.  However, I have to find it first.  I just lost it the other day. I think if you find it within a week or so it’s still fresh. At least that’s what I read on the internet.
