It brings me great joy to see what Hollywood thinks they can get away with when it comes to computer hacking. Usually in the movie the hacker is using some beyond versatile software that allows him or her to easily turn off the city’s power grid or change traffic signals with either a click of a button or a few easy key strokes. Granted, Hollywood has to do this because computer illiterate viewers may not be able to keep up with what’s going on if they aren’t given something easy to follow. Plus, watching someone type out everything via command line could kill the pace of the movie and frankly is not very exciting or compelling to watch. Conversely, there are the times when the hacking is so over the top that you simply can’t turn away from the absurdity. With that said, here’s a retrospective of hacking in film.

and if the MTV Movie Awards are any indication of how our children will turn out, it’s going to be a depressing one.  I’m not saying Twilight was a bad movie, it’s just that if I had a choice of watching that movie or licking feet, then take your socks off and pass the Sriracha. Seriously, I’ve seen better acting from cardboard cutouts.

Teen vampire drama Twilight may have dominated the podium at Sunday night’s irreverent MTV Movie Awards, but edgy British comedy actor Sacha Baron Cohen stole the night with a skit that sent rapper Eminem storming out of the ceremony.

Director Catharine Hardwick’s adaptation of Twilight, the first in the forthcoming movie series, snagged MTV’s golden popcorn trophy in nearly every category for which it was nominated. Winners are chosen through public voting.

Fetching young stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart were among the strong Twilight contingent on hand to pick up the movie’s five trophies, including best movie, best fight, best kiss, breakthrough male performance (for Pattinson) and best female performance (for Stewart).

Ever watch a movie and think, “I’d rather have stuck my finger in my eyeball and swirled it around for a few hours.”?  Luckily, the folks over at lemondrop.com came up with Twitter style reviews of some chick flicks to save you the time of watching these crap movies.

The whole point of Twitter? It forces brevity. These book-smart Tweeters took that idea and gave themselves a fun challenge: Summarize great works of literature in a sentence or two. (Take that, Sparknotes!) For example:

Catcher in the Rye: Rich kid thinks everyone is fake except his little sister. Has breakdown.

Titanic: Boy saves girl. Boy & girl have sweaty sex while you sit next to your mom in theater, horrified. Boy dies, radio plays crap song for months.

“Jam Wow” featuring Vince Offer (Steve Porter’s Sham Wow remix)

I don’t know why all infomercials aren’t like this.  It’s certainly more entertaining.  I’ve got to give it DJ Steve Porter.  Apparently, you can make any name cool by putting “DJ” in front of it and you can pimp out infomercials like a bad ass. Don’t forget to check out Rap Chop.

There is an article on Slate that pretty much sums up what I think we all feel, and what is wrong with the MPAAA. Farhad Manjoo talks about the spectrum of limited availability of movies to stream on Netflix, to the high availability but correlated price on iTunes. So what to do? Torrents. It is what people are doing, and just like me, it isn’t really about money, it is easy. The MPAA, by not adopting to modern technology, is making even non computer savvy become an expert at BitTorrent.
