In theory the car is using an SQL injection to drop the picture of the car. You have to give it to some people, that is human ingenuity at it’s best!

Another plane takes a hit, but thankfully it was American made and can take on a few birds! This is the story coming out of the Daily Mail:

Dwarfed by the jetliner, they look little more than a smattering of black dots.

But this flock of birds could have brought the plane crashing down in seconds.

They flew straight into the path of the Germania airlines flight to Kosovo as it took off from Dusseldorf airport with 80 on board.

‘It was like a scene from the Hitchcock movie The Birds. One second all was clear, and the next thing you saw were these birds swarming over the plane,’ said an onlooker.

It is thought more than 200 starlings were sucked into the right engine as the Boeing jet approached 200mph.

Others dented the fuselage but thankfully did not pierce it. Their splattered remains could be seen on the plane later.

‘The pitch of the engine said it all,’ said plane-spotter Juergen Kienast, who took these dramatic pictures.

‘It was like sticking a bit of metal pipe into a blender.’

Once airborne, the pilot reported engine damage and circled for almost 45 minutes before landing safely.

No-one was hurt and the plane had only minor damage.

A similar bird strike brought down an Airbus in the Hudson in New York in January this year.

The pilot managed a heroic emergency landing and all 155 on board survived.

This is just too funny, I am just going to post the Slashdot story since someone went through all the work of having several stories.

“Apparently the police like to spend their time trawling our private information on Facebook looking for criminals. ‘Riot police stormed a man’s 30th birthday barbecue for 15 guests because it was advertised as an “all-night” party on Facebook. Four police cars, a riot van, and a force helicopter were dispatched to a privately-owned field in a small village near Sowton, Devon in the UK on Saturday, ordering the party shut down or everyone would be arrested. The birthday barbecue was busted up before they even had a chance to plug the music in, reports the BBC. It was about 4pm when eight officers with camouflage pants and body armor jumped out of their vehicles and ordered everyone out about an hour into the party.’ The event’s organizer, Andrew Poole, said, ‘The police had full-on camouflage trousers on and body-armour, it was ridiculous. There were also several plain-clothes officers as well … they kept on insisting it has been advertised it as an all-night rave on the internet. The times on it were put as “overnight” in case people wanted to sleep-over, but after being explained this they were still banging on saying it was advertised on the internet. They wouldn’t accept it wasn’t a rave. It was in a completely isolated field.

How funny, can you even imagine. I wonder what other tags are being monitored . . .

This had potential, something straight out a movie, sadly it didn’t work out. In hopes of freeing (ironically) a pilot from prison, a group of individuals sent in an inflatable zeppelin so that he could fly over the prison walls. Here is the full story from the Telegraph:

Three people have been arrested after their plan to aid the escape of an inmate from prison in Las Palmas on the Canary Islands was discovered by police.

They planned to use a 13 foot long remote-controlled airship to deliver night vision goggles, climbing gear and camouflage paint to the Italian convict who would then use the equipment to escape from prison.

It is thought the inmate, identified by police as 52 year-old Giulio B, would use the gear to scale down a prison wall at night where a car would be waiting to take him into hiding.

“He would be transported to a foreign country where he would hide out while he waited for false identity documents and would continue to oversee the shipment of drugs to our country,” a statement released by Spanish police said.

The three people arrested by police had sent up camp in a camouflaged tent on a hill some 600 metres away from the jail where they spent weeks observing security measures at the prison through powerful binoculars and telephoto lenses.

The team of two Spaniards and a Urugauan had set up motion detection sensors around their camp to warn of anyone approaching their stake-out site.

Authorities said they learnt of the plan and intercepted the package containing the inflatable zeppelin when it arrived in the Canary Islands from Bergamo.

The Italian, who police believe is part of a drug trafficking gang, was serving jail time after being caught piloting a sea-plane containing 440 pounds of cocaine from Mauritania to Spain.

There is formation flying, then there is the formation flying with the Blue Angels. This video is shot from inside of the cockpit, and it is enough to make you start searching for the barf bag around your desk. I especially like the towers they pass at about 7:10.

Here is sadly a not so good pilot trying to takeoff. What I really want to comment on is the guy making the video. Talk about having same balls! I mean here is this plane coming at you, with a large blender on the front of it. Any closer and he would have been fish bait!

Not that I need more reasons to be proud to be Taiwanese, but here’s a story that does just that. 

TAIPEI — A 96-year-old Taiwanese man who will receive his master’s degree in philosophy this weekend said he was able to compete with younger students by pulling all-nighters before exams.

Chao Mu-he, better known to his classmates at Nanhua University in southern Taiwan as "Grandpa Chao," said he began graduate school after being told he was too old to continue as a volunteer at a local hospital.

"I was bored after I left the hospital," Chao said Thursday. "I don’t play mahjong or have other hobbies. I felt I had to do something with my life."

Now that he has his master’s he’ll finally be able to compete in today’s job market… *cricket’s chirping* Is this thing on???

I fly a lot, and of all the things that concern me, a meteor hitting the plane was the least of them. Now that has changed, thanks to Discovery Magazine. First I figured the chances were so minute that no one would care. Now looking at this article they are saying it might be a 1:20, are you freaking kidding me? How is the so holy TSA going to remedy this one? Maybe they will change shirt colors again, that will show them!

Back in 1996, after the initially very mysterious explosion and crash of Flight 800 from JFK to Rome, there were numerous eyewitness accounts of a “streak in the sky” just before the crash. This led to the “missile theory” of the crash, which was eventually attributed to the explosion of the center fuel tank by the NTSB. But, also at the time, it was suggested that a meteor of sufficient size could have struck the plane, bringing it down.

Obviously for any given flight the chances are very, very small that a meteor will bring down an airliner, but as Hailey and Helfand pointed out in a letter to the NYT in 1996, the correct question to ask is this: “What is the probability that, for all flights in history, one or more could have been downed by a meteor?” They concluded that there was a 1-in-10 chance that this could happen…let’s use their logic, brought up to date somewhat, for 2009, for Flight 447.
