I have been hesitant to post about this. It is a great idea, but I am not sure if it is real since I can’t find anything an their website, and the blog doesn’t show it. I will just let Dizzy Thinks sum it up for you.

Well I have to admit that this is genius. The guys from the Pirate Bay have a a 30million SEK fine which they say they won’t pay. However they have come up with a plan where all their users can join in which works like this.

Everyone sends a small amount of money in an electronic transfer to the law firm that represnted the music industry. Suggested amount is 1 SEK (equivalent to 0.13 USD. Apparently the law firm’s bank account is only allowed 1000 electronic transactions before it starts to cost them, the account holder money.

The charge per transfer at this point is, wait for it… 2 SEK. Thus after the first 1000 SEK, if people send just 1 SEK it will cost the law firm more than the money they receive to process.

Welcome to the Distributed Denial of Dollars attack (DDo$)

True or not this is one of the smartest things I have heard all day. I am sure they would somehow get it reversed, but for the small amount it would take to try it, I am all for it. Where do I send the money?

I will join every other blog and newspaper that covers technology and throw in my two cents on The Pirate Bay trial. And I don’t know about you, but I am conflicted on what I want to have happen, and what I know should happen.

While the idea of anyone being able to upload content, and The Pirate Bay not hosting any of the torrents, makes a case of deniability, we all know that it really wasn’t enough to save them. The RIAA/MPAA will stop at nothing to keep their hands on as much money as they can. This was a battle that was a must win for them to be able to have a chance on controlling the future of legal battles against P2P networks.

I don’t know about you but I have downloaded a ton of stuff from torrents. The real problem is most of it was legal. From Linux distros, to trial editions of programs that smartly use P2P to distribute. I am afraid this is going to open the door on law suits trying to attack the P2P networks.

Now Google better start paying attention to this. Everyone is already pointing to the fact that everything The Pirate Bay hosted can just as easily be found on Google. And even more to that point I will say that every time I need a torrent, i usually if not almost always just use Google to find it.

So while I can see why the “Mafia” fought so hard to win this case, and even some of their side to the story, I still hope for appeals course to nix this case.

Here are some other good articles over the story:
